Survey work offers a great opportunity to find out about your local wildlife and to hone your identification skills. It's also hugely important to understanding the health of local species populations.Wildlife surveys

It's an enormous task - nothing short of mapping the plants and animals that live in Shropshire, so those who carry it out will always welcome more help. If you would like to get involved, please contact the relevant group.

Field Studies Council

Runs free training courses throughout the year on wildlife surveying as part of a 5-year project to encourage biological recording in Shropshire. Visit their website to find out more.

Shrewsbury Wildlife Survey Group

Meets at the Shropshire Wildlife Trust headquarters to survey sites across the county.

Shropshire Bird Atlas

The Shropshire Ornithological Society is working to produce an updated Atlas of Wintering & Breeding Birds in Shropshire, as well as contributing to the National Bird Atlas. This is a valuable and ambitious project and they would welcome any help. Visit their website to find out more.

The group works closely with local farmers and landowners and is helping to bring about some very positive changes for wildlife.
