Bill Oddie praises Shropshire wildlife book
A book of wildlife images has been published to celebrate Shropshire Wildlife Trust’s 50th anniversary. Mark Sisson, a professional wildlife photographer from Newport, has collaborated with the Trust to produce Wild Shropshire, a richly illustrated 177-page hardback book. The glorious variety of Shropshire’s wildlife is revealed in these beautiful images, covering the county’s landscape, birds, animals and plants.
The photographs are accompanied by brief descriptions of the different habitats within Shropshire and the changes they have undergone over the last 50 years.
“Any photographic collection of landscapes, birds, flowers and animals is certain to be impressive, but it can be rather dull. Not when Mark Sisson is behind the camera,” says Bill Oddie in a foreword to the book. “Fellow photographers will appreciate the technical skills – defocused backgrounds, soft focused flowers, off-centre framing, and subtlety of shape, shadows and light. Pictures like these don’t just happen by accident. This is the beauty of nature enhanced by human creativity. This is art!”
Mark won the wildlife on video category in this year’s British Wildlife Photography Awards with a short film of a great crested grebe family.
