ACORNS FOR HOPE

The restoration to oak woodland of Hope Valley Nature Reserve is being helped along by young environmentalists assisted by local businesses.

Members of the Trust's Wildlife Watch group, the junior wing of the Wildlife Trust, went along to Hope Valley recently to collect hundreds of acorns. After a short spell in cold storage at Forestart, a wild seed harvesting company at Hadnall, the acorns will be taken to Boningales Nursery to be be planted by the Wildlife Watch group and grown on.

"By autumn 2009 we should have several hundred young oak trees which will then be planted back into Hope Valley by the children, replacing the conifers being felled this winter", said Carl Pickup, Reserves Manager.
