Shropshire Wildlife Trust, Fordhall Community Land Initiative, Field Studies Council - Preston Montford and The Plunkett Foundation are developing opportunities for skill and knowledge building activities for young people aged 11-25 years old across the county.

For You


Shropshire Wildlife Trust

  • Make your weekends wild  Monthly work party one Sunday a month for young people aged 11 - 25 who are looking to gain practical experience in the conservation sector. This will include a range of activity including coppicing, pond management and habitat work.
  • Summer skills week Join us for a week of CV building fun! Develop your wildlife ID and surveying skills, have a go at practical conservation tasks and dabble in bushcraft and survival.
  • Duke of Edinburgh residential – RAVE Residential Active Volunteering Experience or RAVE is a weeklong residential course suitable for Gold D of E award and John Muir discovery award.
  • Work experience placements Shropshire Wildlife Trust can offer work experience placements to find out what it is like to work in a conservation charity and gain a better understanding of what we do.
  • Wrekin Rocks is an additional series of traditional woodland management activities and events on the Ercall, funded by ALCOA. 

FSC Preston Montford

  • Day courses Tailored natural history courses for those following in Darwin’s footsteps. Discover more about specific habitats and specialised species.
  • Residential courses Further discovery and exploration into specific areas of natural history and conservation over a few days in the Shropshire countryside.
  • Work experience placements FSC Preston Montford can offer work experience placements to find out what it is like to work at an environmental education charity and gain a better understanding of what we do

Fordhall Farm

  • Exploration events When school, college and universities break up for the holidays keep an eye out for fun at Fordhall. Events range from Woodland Wellness days to Bushcraft sessions.
  • Work experience placements Fordhall Farm can offer work experience placements to find out what it is like to work at a community farm and all that goes with it.

Plunkett Foundation 

For those with a personal drive seriously thinking about setting up a land based social enterprise support is available through workshops and mentoring.

 

 


For Schools, Colleges and Universities

  • Project staff can attend careers fairs or talks.
  • Introductory sessions to the nationally recognised John Muir Award.
  • Environmental after school clubs
  • Conservation Volunteering days
  • Wildlife ID days
  • Work experience placements
  • Alternative curriculums working towards John Muir Awards for those who struggle in the classroom with Shropshire Wildlife Trust.
  • Fordhall specialises in working with small numbers of students to develop their skills, confidence and self-esteem who may be struggling to engage in the conventional education setting.
