SHROPSHIRE

SWEENEY FEN

A small, marshy meadow in the Oswestry hills, Sweeney Fen has very precise management requirements to ensure its special plants can flourish. Cattle grazing is vital, but not too much of it; the rushes are cut by hand.

In June a route is specially marked out through the tall meadow grasses, giving people the chance to see a fine show of marsh helleborines.
