Accessible Reserves
Making our reserves more accessible, inclusive and welcoming for everyone
We believe everyone has a right to access nature. We want our 40+ nature reserves across Shropshire to be welcoming, accessible, and relevant to as many people as possible.
Through our Accessible Reserves programme, we are working with individuals, communities and organisations to find out how they engage with nature and the outdoors, understand their experiences, and create spaces where everyone can experience, enjoy and contribute to nature.
Our approach
We know that accessibility is more than just paths and gates. We want to look at the whole journey; from discovering a site and planning your visit, to arriving at a reserve and finding your way around, and how you experience and connect with nature whilst you are there.
Over the coming years, we want to consider lots of different ways to improve our sites, including things like access points, facilities, paths and trails, seating areas, signs and wayfinding, our website and digital channels, what support we can offer to visitors, volunteering opportunities, and things to do on our reserves.
Most importantly, we want your input, ideas and feedback to help make our reserves as welcoming and inclusive as we can.
Share your story
Tell us about your experiences accessing nature, whether on our reserves or in other green spaces.
You don’t have to be a regular visitor, an expert in disability, or knowledgeable about nature to take part.
We’d love to hear:
- What you enjoy about nature and the outdoors
- What stops you or puts you off visiting wild spaces
- What would make it easier for you to enjoy our nature reserves.
We especially want to hear from people with lived experience of disability or long-term health conditions, including mental health, neurodivergence, fluctuating and progressive conditions, or multiple disabilities.
