Darwin's garden school visits

Darwin and Evolution Education Workshop

What you need to know...

Suitable for: KS1 / KS2 / KS3

Time: Half day session Can be combined with additional activity for an all day session.

Location: Either at the Wood Lane Nature Reserve, your school grounds or a green space local to you.

Workshop content

In this half day session we use local hero Charles Darwin to bring the ideas of evolution and inheritance to life. See how animals and plants have adapted to suit their environment in different ways and investigate how adaptation may lead to evolution. Explore your own site, local area or the nature reserve to give your learners first-hand experience of how the natural world works right on their doorstep.

Full-day Darwin bookings can be tailored to your needs by selecting from the following options to add to your Darwin half day session:

  • Recycling / Sustainability – featuring a trailer ride to visit the neighbouring landfill and recycling centre (Wood Lane Nature Reserve only)
  • Rock Stars – add on a visit to our geology field station for a practical experiment looking at the properties of different rock samples (Wood Lane Nature Reserve only, indoor / suitable for all weathers)
  • Evolution and Inheritance for KS2 / KS3 – a more in-depth look at the science of evolution and inheritance for older groups, taught through practical, hands-on activities (all locations, indoors or outdoors)

So, contact our Education and Learning Team for more information about how we can help make your workshop an experience the class will remember.
