From new access infrastructure to a viewpoint overlooking the Shropshire Hills, the site is beginning to take shape – and we’re looking forward to welcoming people to explore it in the future. 

The car park is now complete 

One of the biggest steps forward has been the completion of the new car park. 

There are limited spaces available, helping us keep the impact of vehicles on the site to a minimum while providing a practical way for people to reach the reserve. 

We know many people are keen to visit Betchcott Hill, and our aim is for the reserve to be accessible for people to enjoy responsibly. We’re currently working towards finalising plans for planned walkways and opportunities to explore the site, so there will be more ways to discover Betchcott Hill as the project develops. 

In the meantime, please bear with us while we get everything ready. 

A view worth stopping for 

Initial work to create the new viewpoint is complete – and it’s safe to say the view does not disappoint. 

Looking out across the Shropshire Hills, it gives a wonderful sense of the landscape we’re working to protect and enhance at Betchcott Hill. 

It’s a reminder that nature recovery isn’t just about what happens beneath our feet. It’s also about creating opportunities for people to experience, understand and connect with the landscapes around them. 

We’re looking forward to eventually being able to share this view with visitors as part of our plans for the site, including interpretation boards and rest areas to greater enjoy the experience.  

Making access work for people and wildlife 

Replacement of the perimeter fencing around the site continues. This is an important part of preparing Betchcott Hill for its future, helping us to manage access and conservation grazing, supporting the way the land is cared for. 

Managing access carefully is particularly important as we work to create a balance between protecting wildlife, restoring habitats and welcoming people. 

The aim isn't simply to make the whole site accessible at all times, but to create thoughtful ways for people to enjoy Betchcott Hill while giving nature the space it needs. 

What's next for Betchcott Hill? 

There’s still work to do, but these milestones mean we’re getting closer to being able to share more of Betchcott Hill with the public. 

We’re continuing to develop plans for walks and opportunities to explore the reserve, and most importantly accelerate the pace of nature's restoration through a broad variety of habitat interventions. 

For now, the completed car park, fencing and viewpoint are all important steps towards the bigger vision for Betchcott Hill: a place where wildlife can thrive and where people can connect with nature and the wider Shropshire Hills landscape.
