Bees are a familiar sight in our gardens, meadows and hedgerows – but how much do we really know about them?

Join us at Shropshire Wildlife Trust for the Shropshire Honey Show 2026, a celebration of bees, pollinators, honey and the incredible connections between people and nature.

From getting a closer look at a working honeybee colony to chatting with local beekeepers and discovering more about the insects that keep our ecosystems flourishing, there will be plenty to explore.

Ever wondered what goes on inside a beehive?

See honeybees up close during our live bee demonstrations, held in a specially designed demonstration cage. Find out how a colony works, how bees communicate and what life is like for these remarkable social insects.

Demonstrations will take place at:

1:00pm and 2:30pm

🌼 Discover the world of pollinators

Honeybees are just one part of Shropshire's incredible pollinator community.

Our countryside is home to a huge diversity of bees and other insects, from bumblebees and solitary bees to hoverflies and butterflies. These small but important creatures connect plants, wildlife and people – helping pollinate wildflowers and crops and supporting healthy ecosystems.

🍯 Meet local beekeepers

Chat to local beekeepers and find out more about the relationship between people and honeybees.

Ask questions, learn about the realities of keeping bees and discover how beekeeping connects us with the natural world around us.

There will also be opportunities to buy locally produced honey and bee products, supporting local beekeepers.

🌿 Explore bees and nature

Through displays, exhibits and activities, discover more about bees, pollination and the wildlife-rich habitats that support them.

From flowering meadows and hedgerows to gardens and orchards, the places we create and protect can make a real difference for pollinators.

Why do pollinators matter?

Pollinators might be small, but their impact on our natural world is enormous.

Bees and other pollinating insects help plants reproduce, supporting the wildflowers, trees and crops that form the foundations of our ecosystems. In turn, healthy habitats provide pollinators with food, shelter and places to nest.

But pollinators are facing increasing pressures, including habitat loss, changes in land management and the impacts of climate change.

Making space for nature – from planting wildflowers and allowing areas of grass to grow longer to protecting and restoring habitats across the wider landscape – can help give pollinators the places they need to thrive.

The Honey Show is an opportunity to celebrate honeybees while looking at the much bigger picture: the vital connections between pollinators, plants, people and the places we call home.
