Environmental Leadership Programme
Could you be the difference that nature needs?
The West Midlands Environmental Leadership Programme 2 (ELP2) is a collaborative initiative between The Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts and Shropshire Wildlife Trust and is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund.
It is a free 9 month long programme for 18-25 year olds, based in the West Midlands, who want to get connected with people and nature in your local community and help tackle environmental issues in your area and beyond!
Further information about the programme itself, frequently asked questions, nature connectedness, and how to sign up and take part are with a dedicated website: www.elp2.uk
Why join?
Many young people are deeply concerned about climate change and the future of nature, but don’t always know how to take action.
Our research found that 65% of young people aged 18-24 are extremely concerned about climate change, and 78% want to do more, yet far fewer are currently involved in campaigns or action
This programme is about giving you the tools, confidence and support to turn that concern into action.
What you’ll experience
Through a mix of online sessions and in-person activities, you’ll explore how people connect with nature and how that connection can inspire real change.
During the programme you will:
- Meet environmental leaders, campaigners and professionals
- Visit nature reserves and experience nature connection activities
- Work with other young people who care about the environment
- Learn leadership, campaigning and community organising skills
- Design and deliver your own Nature Connection Campaign to inspire action in your community
Along the way you’ll build skills, confidence, networks and experience that can help you move into environmental careers or community leadership.
What the programme looks like
The Environmental Leadership Programme runs for 9 months and combines online and in-person learning to make it accessible and flexible.
You’ll take part in:
- Online sessions (every couple of weeks in the evening)
- In-person events and activities during the programme
- Group work with other participants
- Campaign development and delivery in your community
