I joined Shropshire Wildlife Trust’s Youth Forum to advocate for nature within my area, help build a network of young conservationists, and inspire others to pursue and develop their passion for the natural world.
Throughout my experiences in the environmental field so far, I’ve seen first-hand the passion, commitment, and power that young people bring to conservation. However, I believe the sector as a whole has yet to fully realise and harness this potential, with many young people still facing significant barriers when trying to find a pathway into the environmental sector.
Youth voices are vital to the future of conservation. Young people are the next generation of change-makers — driving advocacy, introducing new ideas, and helping shape a more inclusive and resilient environmental movement. Their involvement brings fresh insight and energy to the sector, and ensures that conservation remains adaptable, relevant, and future-focused.
Through the Youth Forum, I hope we can build a strong network of young conservationists across Shropshire, enabling intergenerational knowledge sharing, amplifying youth voices within the sector, and creating accessible opportunities for young people to get involved.
Ultimately, I hope Youth Forum can help to empower young people across Shropshire — offering them the support, community, and pathways they need to thrive in the environmental sector and help protect nature for generations to come.
The Youth Forum is open to anyone aged between 16 and 30 and live, work or study in Shropshire or Telford and Wrekin. If you are interested in being involved email youth@shropshirewildlifetrust.org.uk and we will be in touch with more information.
