Volunteers needed for new gardening project

Tuesday 13th February 2018

Shropshire Wildlife Trust is looking for people to help drive forward an exciting project to enhance the gardens at its visitor centre in Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury.

We are looking for people with an interest in historic gardens, horticulture and wildlife, who would like to volunteer one day a week from the end of March until at least December 2018.

This Heritage Lottery funded project will explore the garden’s history and enable visitors to learn more about the wildlife, history and the buildings at The Cut visitor centre, Shrewsbury.

With the help of Jenny Steel, a professional wildlife gardener, volunteers will produce a management plan for the garden, researching historical planting and species that will be both beneficial for wildlife and relevant to its fascinating heritage.

Volunteers will also benefit from training opportunities such as plant and wildlife identification sessions with experts and trips to other gardens for inspiration, one of which will be Jenny’s own wildlife garden in south Shropshire.

If you would like to find out more please visit the volunteering pages on Shropshire Wildlife Trust’s website, or contact Diane Monether, Volunteer Coordinator on 01743 284296 or dianem@shropshirewildlifetrust.org.uk.
